What is weed or cannabis wax?
Cannabis wax is a concentrate of oils that originate from marijuana plants. The wax may appear golden and soft or it can appear firmer and crumbly in some cases. The wax can potentially be potent because it is essentially all of the oils in the plant. In some cases, it may hold as much as 90 percent THC. That said, consumers should be wary about consuming or inhaling too much.
Weed wax has recently been recognized for its medicinal benefits with a variety of different diseases and conditions. Both THC and CBD have made new headlines as being super effective in curbing specific symptoms such as seizures and anxiety. CBD (cannabidiol) and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) are two natural compounds found in the marijuana plant. CBD may also be found in the hemp plant.
The major differences between the two are CBD does not have the psychoactive effects while THC does. CBD and THC react to the body in a very similar way at the chemical level, but only THC produces the “high” affect many seek. So, think of CBD as doing everything THC does without the psychoactive components.
Both substances are used in the medical field but CBD is more popular because of the lack of psychoactive components. CBD is capable of treating conditions such as inflammation, pain, migraines, nausea, and even depression.
Weed Wax Extraction Methods
There are a few different ways of extracting cannabis wax, but none of them are easy. This is a complex method that requires the best equipment possible in order for it to be effective. Fortunately, Cedarstone Industry manufactures the equipment for every step of the process. Clients can look into the process below.
This process starts by placing the marijuana plant matter or biomass into the extraction vessel. A solvent is also placed inside the container in order to remove soluble components. It is then filtered and separated.
Firstly, place the biomass into the rotor and then fill it with chilled ethanol. Secondly, the rotor barrel then needs to be agitated with the plant material inside. Finally, high speeds will then get the extracted compound with ethanol.
This process occurs in beakers in a freezer. However, the same can be accomplished in a filter reactor. It is important to note that this step may be skipped if the initial extraction was performed with a pre-chilled solvent. The temperature must low such as -50 degrees C or -58 degrees Fahrenheit. Most importantly, this process separates the lipids from the solution.
During this step, the goal is to separate the cannabinoids from the solvent. This process is done through vacuum-assisted evaporation. Normally, the evaporation is done in a Rotary Evaporator (RotoVap), Falling Film Evaporator (FFE), or Rising Film Evaporator (RFE).
This step enriches the THC or CBD content. If there are portions of the plant matter that are not psychoactive, then they can be transferred using heat.
This process separates cannabinoids from impurities via vacuum evaporation. Liquid or component is then isolated through selective heating, vaporization, and condensation. Overall, distillation is performed under reduced pressure.
If you are looking for very pure CPD, then this process will achieve just that. Clients need to dissolve the clear CPD oil that was already winterized and distilled. The distilled step needs to be near the boiling point and then cooled slowly.
Finally, this method isolates and purifies the cannabinoids. This process separates THC from CBD.
